Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide | We soak in elegance at the thermal Széchenyi Baths, stomp and slap with traditional dancers at a folk concert, visit the Communist All-Stars in Statue Park, remember Hungary’s secret police at the House of Terror, sample some paprika in the Great Indoor Market Hall, and cruise under floodlit monuments on the Danube.

  1. Rich Von Ertsey:

Dear Rick, Over all I have enjoyed your presentation of my home town, however, yes, please use the correct geopolitical terminology: Central Europe. Further, Hungary has been thriving ever since it’s establishment as a kingdom (1000 AD) In medieval times Hungarian kings were wealthier in gold reserves than their French or English counterparts. The Habsburg affiliation did not start Budapest’s Europeanization, though truly continued it. Thank you, A+ for effort!

Rich Von Ertsey Our root Tribes from Asia were who the Egyptians called there Gods or SUMERIANS!

    2. Jay Bee:

+Markus Dorfstätter  Calling Hungary»Eastern European» is just a US cold war propaganda term for countries left to the Soviets after WW2.  Geographically speaking, Hungary is central Europe.

    3. Rich Von Ertsey:

The current correct term for some of the former Eastern Bloc countries: Hungary, Czeh, Slovakia… is Central Europe. Before the fall of the iron curtain in 1989 in political terms it was called the Eastern Bloc. Geographically it is the center of Europe for Europe’s eastern border is the Ural Mountains. Ideologically, culturally, these countries are different in religion, music, art, ethnicity etc…

    4. Markus Dorfstätter:

+Rich Von Ertsey  east/west terms come with different perspectives: geographical? ideology?

…and not overrun by third-world migrants. Western Europe needs to wake up before it’s too late.
